Off to the airport for a quick flight to Aswan for the start of our Nile cruise. Three nights aboard a classic Nile cruise ship. Meals on-board, sight-seeing ashore by mini-van or hiking; we travel north to Luxor. We visit 10-12 amazing temples, add a felucca sailboat ride and a jungle motor boat ride thru the First Cataracts to a Nubian village for a swim in the Nile. Amazing.

 

Swimming the Nile: From a Nubian desert shoreline we hop from our boat, swimming to a Cataract Rock out-crop 25m off the beach – thru a ripping Nile current. An invigorating experience; 108F (42C) outside, maybe 75F (23C) water temp. Rain leaping from the rock-cliff with the local Nubian boys – a little too scary for me. That entire trip up-river felt like a Disney ride, but the real deal!!! How lucky to be here. Possibly the best, most authentic moment of our Egyptian adventure. I'll never forget it.
